“Tonight I was scheduled to participate in a debate being hosted by the Scott County Republican Party. I was excited about the opportunity to share my vision for America with those in attendance. However, the Iowa House is scheduled to be in debate tonight with voting ongoing throughout the late afternoon and early evening. Since taking office in 2010, I’ve always said that my first obligation is to represent the people who elected me to serve, and skipping important legislative debate and votes in order to campaign is something I cannot do in good conscience. I extend my sincere regrets to Chairwoman Davidson and to the Scott County GOP. If the calendar changes today, I will get to Davenport as quickly as I can.”
